Frequently Asked Questions
What are The YA RLY Lite Topic Archives?
The YA RLY Lite Topic Archives are a collection of user-contributed content. Contributions can range from funny, interesting, or important
GameFAQs topics, screenshots of funny replies to a topic or message, or any other GameFAQs page or GameFAQs related material. All
contributions MUST, however, be related to GameFAQs in some way, be it a news article about the site or a funny search string that
returns GameFAQs as a result.
Why make another topic archive when there are tons of others out there?
Simple answer: because we can. Seriously, why NOT make another topic archive? We have the free time, willingness, and capability to
manage it, so why not? It's the same reason we decided to make a GameFAQs spinoff - just because we can and felt like it. Our topic
archive is NOT meant to be a competitor to the GameFAQs Archive, the most popular GameFAQs-related archive around, or even any of the
other topic archives out there on the internet - it's just another option for people who want to view interesting GameFAQs-related
material.
Do I have to sign up for YA RLY Lite to become a member at the Topic Archives or vice versa?
As of September 14, 2006, all Topic Archive accounts may be used to login at YA RLY Lite and vice versa. If you create a new account at
this site, you automatically become a member of YA RLY Lite. You are NOT required to ever use your YA RLY Lite account; the universality
is in place simply to make things much more simple for everyone. Rather than having to create to use two separate accounts for each site, you can
use one universal account to contribute here and post at YA RLY Lite.
What type of content will you guys accept?
The YA RLY Lite Topic Archives will accept any GameFAQs-related material provided it follows our Terms of Service and
our rules stated in the Contribution Guide.
Are there any benefits to contributing?
If by benefits, you are thinking in the line of extra features... no - at least, not at this point in time. The Topic Archives are exactly
what its name is - topic archives. There's not many features to gain by contributing a certain amount. The only real privileges our more
regular contributors receive are higher priority in the contribution queue, meaning that their contributions are given "first-class
status", so to speak, and are checked before the contributions of users that submit material on a less-often basis. In the future, there
may be some additional features added to the site, but for now, what you see is what you get for the most part.
How does the userlevel system work?
The user levels run off of a contribution-based system. It's a six-level system, consisting of four regular membership levels, a banned
user level, and an administrative level. Those levels are:
- Banned: User has been banned for one or more ToS violation(s).
- New Contributor: User has less than 10 accepted contributions.
- Regular Contributor: User has at least 10 accepted contributions.
- Respected Contributor: User has at least 50 accepted contributions. Now has higher priority in contribution queue.
- Prolific Contributor: User has at least 100 accepted contributions. Now has highest priority in contribution queue.
- Administrator: User has complete control over the Topic Archives.
Each level, excluding the Administrator and Banned levels, is based off how many accepted contributors a user has. Reaching a certain
amount of contributions, stated in a level's description, upgrades you to the next level. The higher you go, the more priority all future
material you submit is given in the contribution queue. Users that are banned lose access to the site, but their contributions will remain
up.
Why do I have to register to contribute? There are other sites in which all you have to do is send in content!
By making registration a requirement for contributing to the archive, it is much easier to manage contributions. We can easily find all
contributions from the same user and the higher priority in the queue for our more prolific contributors would not be possible without
being a member of the site. It may seem like an unnecessary requirement to you as a regular member of the site, but to the
administrators, it makes managing the site a great deal easier.
How can I check on the status of my contributions?
On the Navigator Bar, click on the link entitled "Account Management". This will bring you to a page in which you can manage all aspects
of your account, including your signature, your timezone, and public email address. There will be another link entitled "View my
contributions". Click on this link and you will find a list of all of your submitted material as well as certain details for each
of them. One of those details will be the contribution's status, which will either be shown as "Accepted" or "Rejected". If accepted,
your contribution is added to the archive and will be linked for all visitors to the site to view at their discretion. Users will also be
able to access it via your contribution history link on your public profile page. If rejected, the file will be deleted from the archive
and will remain in your personal contribution history, but will not be visible in your public history.
Why was my contribution rejected? It was a funny topic!
By funny topics, we mean topics that are humurous to the general population at GameFAQs, not one or two people. Same for interesting
topics and pages. They should appeal to a wide audience and of course, they must follow our guidelines and ToS.
Why are there so few forums here?
If you're looking for a good set of message boards, well, you've come to the wrong place. The Topic Archives' main purpose is to provide
a database of GameFAQs topics. As far as the administrators of the site are concerned, the forums are a secondary thing. We're keeping
the forums small intentionally, as we don't want to confuse people into thinking that this is a message board site with a good topic
archive. We are a good topic archive site with forums. If you're looking for a more traditonal-style message board, you can always try
our other site, YA RLY Lite. You can use your Topic Archives account to login and post there.
How can I give my opinion on a contribution?
Well, outside of contacting the person who submitted the contribution, you can use the voting feature. It's a simple voting system in
which you rate a contribution on a scale of 1-10. The vote is then added to the total score (a totaling of all votes) and divided by the
number of unique votes for that particular contribution, and the average score is listed. Be aware - all votes are stored in the database
by username, so administrators can track votes to see who's responsible for votespamming (low or high rating a high number of
contributions in a short span of time).
What do I do if I find a link that violates the Terms of Service?
Go to the contribution in question and click on the "Report" link. There, you will be taken a page where you can fill out a text box,
explaining what rule you feel the contribution violates. Your report will be entered into the reported links queue for review by an
administrator, who may decide to either reject your report on the grounds that the contribution does not violate the ToS or accept it and
remove the reported contribution from the archives. Please note that abuse of this feature will result in severe penalties for your
account.
I have a suggestion for the site. How can I send it to you guys?
Via the feedback feature. Go to your Account Management page and click on the link entitled "Feedback". From there, you can fill out
a form in which you can explain what you feel would improve the site's quality, such as a new feature.
Can I become an administrator?
No. We are content with the number of administrators that we currently have and we will NEVER need another administrator. There may,
however, be a new level for staff members that handle the less important tasks, such as going through the reports queue, made at some time
in the future. Take that with a grain of salt, though, we can handle everything at this time.
If you have any other questions that you feel were not covered or answered clearly enough in this FAQ, you may contact the Topic
Archives via the feedback form.
